When Behcet’s Disease warrior Pamela Price was scouted for NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, she shared her health struggles for the very first time. Speaking out on social media platforms and in interviews, women and men from around the world reached out to her. Pamela saw a community within the Behcet’s warriors she was connecting with; from Ireland to Pennsylvania, Tunisia to Hawaii.
Pamela was diagnosed with Behçet's disease in 2013, seven years after her first flare. Behçet's is an autoimmune disorder caused by inflammation of the blood vessels.
Today, Pamela is the ambassador for The American Behcet’s Disease Association and activist for the #BehcetsWarrior community, corresponding with women and men living with Behcet’s Disease around the world.
In 2019, Pamela suffered one of her worst flares. A friend sent an anonymous care package in hopes of cheering her up. That single package inspired We Care When.
In 2020, Pamela launched and founded We Care When Inc. (WCW) + #WeCareWhenYouFlare.
@WeCareWhen features Behcet’s Warrior’s diagnosis stories and their journey; in hopes of helping others. From care packages to features and healthcare resources, WCW aims to be a circle of light and hope for those living with rare diseases.
The #WeCareWhenYouFlare program aims to collaborate with companies in order to produce care packages for those who suffer from long-term flares, which can often lead to isolation and depression. It serves those living with Behcet’s, MS (Multiple Sclerosis), Lupus, RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) and other autoimmune diseases.
We Care When held its first event on April 18, 2020 when Pamela ran the 12 Hour Ultra Virus Marathon for healthcare workers. LATF USA News partnered with @MudRunGuide. Pamela took over their Instagram Live while running 30 miles in five hours. Every 5 mile lap, companies donated gifts and prizes to a nominated group of healthcare professionals: nurses, doctors, first responders, etc. from across the country; from Arkansas to California and Canada.
